At the Green City Market’s annual Chefs’ Summer BBQ Festival Thursday from 6 to 8 PM in Lincoln Park (between 1750 N. Clark and Stockton), more than 50 chefs, including Kendal Duque of Sepia, Bruce Sherman of North Pond Cafe, Paul Virant of Vie, and Tim Graham and Meg Galus of Tru, will prepare tastings using the market’s offerings. You can wash ’em down with Goose Island beer and wines from August Hill Winery, Connoisseur Wines, and Glunz Family Winery; there’ll also be live music. $60, $50 in advance, $10 kids.

The Great Performers of Illinois Festival at Millennium Park Friday through Sunday offers free tastings of Illinois wines from vineyards including Baxter’s Vineyard and Fox Valley Winery. And the Park Grill will have "Illinois food specialties" like corn soup, bacon roasted peanuts with butterscotch, and . . . caramelized banana. Not all the food is local, apparently.
From Monday to Friday Carnivale’s "Farm to Table Celebration," a monthly summer event with specials featuring food from local farms, highlights produce from Seedling fruit farm in South Haven, Michigan. For dinner, appetizers include a fruit-based gazpacho with manchego cheese and marcona almonds and a salad with Kinnikinnick Farm baby lettuce, Seedling raspberries, and Gunthorp Farms bacon. Gunthorp duck is the entree, accompanied by braised greens, torpedo onions, and cherry mole; and Seedling blueberries show up in the dessert, a tres leches cake with lemon-mint cream. (There are different specials at lunch.) Appetizers and desserts $7-$9, entrees $25-$30.
Tuesday from 5:30 to 7:30 PM, Lush Wine and Spirits in Roscoe Village (2232 W. Roscoe, 773-281-8888) hosts a free tasting of cheeses from the Dallas-based Mozzarella Company, which specializes in fresh mozzarella but also makes mascarpone, ricotta, queso fresco, feta, and queso Oaxaca (sometimes called Mexican mozzarella). Company owner Paula Lambert will be on hand to talk about the cheeses, which will be paired with wines.
