The Ann Marie Lipinski story

Posted by Whet Moser on 07.14.08 at 05:40 PM

Today's obviously a good time to revisit Steve Rhodes's 2001 profile of Ann Marie Lipinski; the bit about how John Kass was basically considered a lost cause as a journalist before teaming up with Lipinski on a couple big stories is pretty fascinating (Kass is possibly my favorite Trib writer, up there with Blair Kamin, who's also in Lipinski's circle).

Blair Kamin is interested in public policy and feel-good clichés about urban affairs. He shows little interest in architecture. The last interesting article on Architecture was several years back when he wrote about Gehry. Kass is ok but not interesting enough to read everyday.

Kass has the most meaty grist to mill -- mob murders, crooked cops, corrupt everything. His amazingly diffuse writing style manages to make it all seem less than compelling.
