Still flush with the success of last year’s We’ll Never Turn Back (Anti), her bracing look back at the civil rights era produced by Ry Cooder, gospel-soul great Mavis Staples has just announced a live hometown appearance that will double as a recording session. The word "intimate" is overused in concert promotion, but this show is the real deal. She plays the Hideout Monday, June 23, at 8 PM, and considering that she plays theaters all over the globe these days, it’s all but guaranteed to be a sellout.
