The radicals

Posted by Mick Dumke on 03.21.08 at 06:38 PM

Want to know how hateful and destructive the Trinity United Church of Christ has been under Reverend Jeremiah "God damn America" Wright? So much so that over the last two decades it's received millions of dollars in grants from both Democratic and Republican administrations at the federal, state, and city levels. Most of the money has gone to provide community child care, HIV and AIDS programs, food services, and Head Start. ... and over $1.2M of that money was spent on "not clear?" Any expenditure paid for by taxes best be 100% crystal. Regardless, none of that excuses the vitriol Wright spewed forth, nor the a** gyrations when talking about Monica Lewinski (I'm not defending her, nor am I religious, but a man of religion gyrating on the pulpit is just tasteless).

Did you read what Congressman Jackson said about me. That Con Job better never run for mayor. When he needed a job when he was going to school, who do you think gave him a job? My partner Union Boss, Ed Hanley . It was a no show job that the poor membership paid for..

The fact that the media chose to air only a small portion of the sermon seems to have been ignored by most all who've expressed an opinion on that small portion. Interesting, isn't it, that those who regularly doubt what the media feeds the public on numerous other issues are quick to swallow whole the misrepresentation that this fragment of a sermon presents to the unquestioning observer. What preceded this short segment? What followed this small segment? What meaning did this small segment have, within the context of the whole? Are we all so many well-conditioned lemmings as to respond, like trained lab rats, to every piece of bullshit the media sees fit to spoon feed us? Are we all so bereft of thought to automatically react to whatever the media dangles in front of our salivating eyes and ears, hungry for any reason, however unreasonable or irrational, to stimulate our twisted desire to hate and condemn someone? And, finally, what, exactly, was said, even in this short and calculated snip, that wasn't substantially accurate?

Daley buys peace with Black preachers. This is to say these monies are not put to good use.

Point of clarification: "Not clear" simply means that I couldn't readily access the contracts to get the details, though they do appear to be all for social services.

Thanks for the clarification, Mick. Still, when it's our $$, you shouldn't have to work that hard to find out where it went. As for "Do you trust the media"'s comment, who cares the context? Wright made rather unpleasant motions on the pulpit. In front of children. Context is immaterial. As for the substantial accuracy of "God Da*n America" ...? You can debate that nine ways 'til Sunday, if you'd like. Point being that he violated on of the 10 Commandments, again, on the pulpit. He's a man of God. He should know the old man upstairs doesn't take kindly to having his name used in vein, right? He's using the church to propagate his own world view while ignoring the text he so proudly insists that he preaches. What's that word? Oh, yeah ... hypocrite. You've got good points regarding the media, but using that argument to mask what an abject jerk Wright is ..., that's just silly.

He didn't violate any commandments. As far as I undertand it, the Christian God is and always has been in the 'damning' business. He not only dislikes sin he also 'damns' sinners to hell. When evangelical preachers first starting getting radio time back around the 1920's they were the only ones allowed to use the words 'damn' and 'hell' on air. Because that's part of what the Christian religion is - factually -about.

You dont possibly suppose that some of the 8 million that this church has received in the last 7 years might have possibly come from George Bush's "faith base initative program?"
