Nude as the news

Playbill reports on a little scrap between Eric Rosen, artistic director of About Face Theater and playwright Douglas Carter Beane, over the former's staging of the latter's (highly recommended by us) play The Little Dog Laughed. Rosen clothed a nude scene, Beane objected, and it looked like the run was over, but they came to terms. As always in these sorts of incidents, there's a small upshot when artists have to make a practical defense of their intentions.

Beane said the nude scene is important to the play and that there are later dialogue references to it. "It's the shock of two characters who have been denying that they're gay undeniably in a moment of homosexuality," Beane told Playbill.com.
