A couple enthusiasms

* Till by Turning. I haven't heard the Pavone composition that Peter Margasak recommends, but more people should play Messiaen in rock clubs (check out Alex Ross's piece on Quartet for the End of Time). The BBC site also has an extensive audio analysis of Messiaen's most famous work.

* The Common Review, the Great Books Foundation's magazine. It's a totally slept-on local publication that I always enjoy when I come across it--it's a modest, genteel magazine of ideas, kind of our city's version of the New York Review of Books. The essays on Richard Rorty and Greg Bottoms's The Colorful Apocalypse in this quarter's issue are worth a read.
