Breaking news: Grant Achatz's publicist just released this statement from the chef, regarding his cancer treatment:
"It is with a tremendous sense of gratitude and relief that I have successfully completed my course of therapy at the University of Chicago. It was incredibly important to me to remain as engaged as possible at Alinea while receiving treatment, and during that time I only missed 14 services. I continue to stand committed to innovating fine dining long into the future.Showing 1-2 of 2
I am very pleased to hear the news that he is cancer free. However this cancer has a horrible recurrence rate, and he will need to be monitored rigorously to ensure that should it return it is caught at the earliest possible moment. I am somewhat amused that everyone refers to the chemo and radiation protocol he had as really different from what others were recommending. That may have been true of somewhere he consulted first, but to be honest, this is the standard treatment protocol at just about every major NCI designated cancer institution in the US. Bottom line heâs hear with us and in good spirits â thatâs a win for everyone.
