Macedonian accordion master rocks suburbs

Posted by Monica Kendrick on 11.21.07 at 07:09 PM

Thanksgiving weekend may be slow for music in the city, but check out this under-the-radar gig in the suburbs: John Kuo informed me at the going-away party for departing Reader staffer Vera Videnovich that Macedonian accordion master Goran Alachki is on a shoestring U.S. tour and will play Sunday, November 25, at 7 PM at Sts. Kiril & Metodij Macedonian Orthodox Church in Willowbrook, near Hinsdale. The event is open to the public and tickets are $15-$20. You can contact the church itself or try reaching Kuo (balkanske_igre [at] yahoo.com).

Alachki, designated a "Living Cultural Treasure" by the Macedonian Ministry of Culture, and his wife Adrijana, a singer, also teach music in Skopje and cultivate international cultural exchange as much as they can. They have played the Chicago area before and always earned a loving welcome. This show, in beautiful surroundings, should be no exception.
