Nas on one of his greatest

Posted by Miles Raymer on 11.08.07 at 03:26 PM

I still think it's weak sauce that Nas decided to exclude "Ether"—possibly the single best dis track in the history of rappers being mad at each other—from his new Greatest Hits just because he and Jay-Z are mutually responsible for millions of dollars buds now and aren't hanging each other in effigy, getting each others' moms involved, etc. But then I read what he had to say to Rolling Stone about "One Mic": "I'm a huge fan of Phil Collins and I just wanted to take the vibe from 'In the Air Tonight.'" And damned if I'm not ready to let it all slide now.

Collins is like Hall & Oates -- it's hard to deny he's still got his hooks in us after all these years, even if we're now "old enough to know better," whatever that means. A great song is a great song.
