Mangosteens skip the Third Coast

Posted By on 08.08.07 at 11:02 AM

The New York Times reports that the Big Apple and Los Angeles are about to receive their first (legal) shipments of fresh mangosteens today. These aren't the irradiated Thai mangosteens I wrote about last month, but instead come from the Puerto Rican farm of Ian Crown, who also maintains the great site

I haven't heard back yet from Mr. Crown about the possibility of a Chicago shipment, and I'd hoped that this is just another case of the Times forgetting there's another big city between the coasts, but somehow I doubt it. Given the time it took us to get our own high end cocktail bar after NYC, maybe we'll see mangosteens in about 2014.
