An update on arrested dog trainer Ami Moore

Posted by Tasneem Paghdiwala on 08.06.07 at 01:45 PM

The Reader's gotten letters asking for more on Ami Moore, the West Loop dog trainer I wrote about in April who's facing animal cruelty charges--witnesses say she was strapping electronic collars around dogs' private parts, among other things.

Moore says she's innocent and PETA's behind the whole thing, because they hate America and because she's black.

She closed up her shop on Madison the week our story ran, but her Web site says she'll still come to your house to train your dog. Meanwhile her case drags on; a bench trial is scheduled for October 2.

To whom it may concern, I teach animal education to the parents of pets in an effort to further the ongoing relationship rather than just train the dog. I use only holistic type animal signs. I feel that people who rely on electrical devices, spiked collars or other brutal methods, are in fact unskilled at actually relating to an animal. My dog Coral Reef, a Doberman Pincer & I were at the lakefront. Ami Moore was also there with a production crew. I didn't recognize her but one of the crew members worked with me on a movie starring Ben Vereen entitled "Tapioca". My Reef played Ben's dog in the movie & it was a very extensive role that was pivotal to the plot. He worked brilliantly. He asked me to demonstrate my Reef's incredible prowess and the camera man filmed this. As he worked her jaw dropped and she was utterly mesmerized. Miss Moore never said she waqs a trainer or that this footage would be used to promote herself. She was however very quick to send the producer to have me sign a release for this footage. When I asked what this was for the camera man related that this was a student film. I found this to be absolutly unethical and it demonstrates both that she again must depend on cheating type devices & tactics as well as other's efforts to gain ground in the training business. The fact that she would do this to anyone is an indication of her spiritual ethics as well as her confidence in her own skills. It's obvious that she dosen't care who she hurts and feels that the end justifies the means. My site is caninecitysurvival.com Look at my endorsements as well as our Animal Planet footage. The fact that my beautiful animal & myself can be associated with her in any way is repugnant to me and heartbreaking as well. I had read your article about her and appreciate your desire to protect animals. This is my life's work and I've written a book on holistic animal training entitled "Canine City Survival". I'll send you a copy if you want. Respectfully, Coral Reef & Ken Henry
