NYT Book Review anoints Joshua Ferris

Posted by on 03.19.07 at 12:50 PM

Joshua Ferris, a native of downstate Danville and former Chicago copywriter (now a Brooklyn resident), has gotten a fair amount of buzz for his new novel, Then We Came to the End, about a Chicago ad agency, including a blurb from Nick Hornby. But being the cover boy in the Sunday NYT book review (ahead of William Vollmann [!] and Jonathan Lethem [!!]) pretty much anoints him as the novelist of the moment. A glowing review doesn't hurt, either.

And being young and handsome won't hurt. If you want to get introduced to his work early and in person, he'll be reading at Borders on Clark on Wednesday; to tide you over, you can get the first chapter online.

Bonus fiction update: Junot Diaz, who's been pretty quiet since establishing himself as a bright young thing with Drown in 1996, has a book scheduled for September. (h/t The Elegant Variation )
