This news has been floating around for a while, but one-time Minutemen bassist (and current member of the reunited Stooges) Mike Watt recently played on six songs for the next Kelly Clarkson album. In a Pitchfork story Watt explained that he’s old friends with producer David Kahne, who asked him to contribute to the sessions. I was particularly amused by this new twist from a January 6 Reuters/Billboard story, where Watt admits that he knew virtually nothing about the singer: "I heard that Kelly won some game show, but I was really impressed how she sang her ass off.”

Does this mean I've got to listen to Kelly Clarkson now? Its not quite jammin' the thunder broom for Madonna, but I guess its kinda close. Hopefully Uncle Mike will see some nice coinage from the project.

Oh, come now. "Since You've Been Gone" is kind of a jam. I for one welcome the indiefication of Kelly Clarkson.

'Kind of a jam' is kind of different than 'a jam', though, right? I didn't mean to disparage Kelly Clarkson. I think she's a lot better than most of what my teenage daughters listen to. I just feel a bit bushed after conquering those feelings of needing to check out Taylor Hicks' new album because he has grey hair like me...

I'm firmly convinced there's evidence of something to watch with KC: "Since You've Been Gone" and more recently "Walk Away." I dunno what, I dunno how, but there's *something* afoot there, some seed sown...have a little bet with myself about this.
